Our Story
We, Darren, and Sarah are the proud owners of Hafren Forest Hideaway.
In July 2017, we decided to leave the comfort of Somerset, and our demanding jobs and venture into the heart of Mid Wales, seeking a life closer to the great outdoors and all the natural wonders that this breathtaking region has to offer.
Our story began with the purchase of "The Old Weather Station." The neglected, weathered building was the canvas upon which we envisioned creating something truly special. With our passion for the great outdoors and the wild landscapes of Mid Wales, we knew that this was the place where our dreams could become reality.
The first step in our journey was the renovation of the building.
As outdoor enthusiasts, we were determined to make our accommodation a welcoming haven for guests who share our love for adventures in the great outdoors. We understand the importance of escaping the daily grind and having a home away from home. It’s our mission to provide a comfortable and convenient base for those who wish to explore the outdoor wonders of Mid Wales or simply relax amidst the tranquillity of the area.
In 2020, the world faced the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and we temporarily closed our doors. During this time, while we missed the presence of visitors, we continued to work diligently to enhance our accommodation.
When we finally reopened in 2022, we realised that our accommodation had evolved significantly since its beginning in 2017, so we changed the name from Hafren Forest Bunkhouse to "Hafren Forest Hideaway,” which we truly believe reflects what we have to offer.
At Hafren Forest Hideaway, we don't just offer accommodation; we provide a range of choices to suit your preferences, including B&B, Half Board, Exclusive Hire Self Catering, or Exclusive Hire with Catering. In addition to our cosy Hideaway, we can offer an array of exciting outdoor activities, including walking, paddleboarding, paddle sports, EMTB Hire (electric mountain biking), archery, axe throwing, foraging, forest bathing, and much more.

A Warm Welcome Awaits
We have worked hard to make sure our accommodation is homely but practical. Hot showers, comfy beds, and a cosy lounge.
Our kitchen is fully equipped and our dining table has the best view in the building.
We pride ourselves on making sure our accommodation is clean and tidy and we welcome you on your arrival to show you around and make sure everything you need is available for you.
Sarah offers good old-fashioned home-cooked food and is experienced in cooking for special dietary requirements so please don't hesitate to call to discuss any dietary requirements or food allergies.
If you have a special occasion to celebrate, just let us know — we’ll happily decorate the dining room and dress the table for you.
Our menu changes regularly but here are some of the meals we provide, all with a vegetarian & vegan option. The main evening meal includes a pudding too.

- Chicken Curry, Rice, Onion & Cucumber Salad, Beetroot Rita, Naan Bread.

- Roast Dinner with all the trimmings
- Macaroni Cheese, Winter Coleslaw & Honey Roast Ham
- Moroccan Meat Balls, with pasta, and garlic bread.
- Lamb & Mint Burgers in a Brioche Bun, Onion Rings, Potato Wedges & Salad
